North Berwick is unmissable during the summer – not only because of the numerous sunny and tranquil beaches but also the lively atmosphere that buzzes around this seaside town during the Fringe by the Sea.

This annual festival is jammed packed with music, comedy, film and literature and pull crowds from the busy streets of central Edinburgh out for a fresher atmosphere than that in the Edinburgh Fringe which is the coinciding festival. Activities range from seaside showings of ‘The Little Mermaid’ to late night gigs by local and international bands, so it’s sure that those of all ages and interests will find some fun! An evening jazz group performance by the shore followed by a stroll with some fish and chips in hand can never disappoint.

If you fancy getting involved with some more slightly absurd Scottish traditions you can easily venture out to the North Berwick Highland Games where you can find traditional heavy athletic events like tug-o-war and the caber toss as well as Highland dance competitions and bagpiping. You won’t be able to find anything more Scottish!

To add event more spectacle to a visit, a speedy train from North Berwick station to the center of Edinburgh you will find the bustling Edinburgh Fringe which takes place across the city for a month. A must see would be the fireworks display which is a dazzling 40 minute choreographed show accompanied by stirring music by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, all set against the iconic backdrop of the Edinburgh Castle. It is difficult to find anything quite as enchanting.

Bring your good spirit and curiosity and North Berwick is bound to deliver a fun filled holiday!
